Site refresh for M2 Training

Vocational training company M2 Training came to me with a design already prepared for their site refresh, needing a coder to get the new design into a functional website. Although a traditional brochure type site, offering company information and contact details, I suggested a site built around a WordPress theme based on the new design would provide the most value.

More organisations are realising the power and convenience of using a content management system such as WordPress for their sites – the ability to update, edit and add new pages saves time and money, and provides a flexible base for adding new features at a later date.

Custom fields were used to allow the client to easily upload additional images, which were then scaled and cropped using the awesome TimThumb image resizing script, and placed in the site to fit with the original design. Using custom fields like this is an excellent way to avoid WordPress powered sites looking too ‘bloggy’, with all the content presented in a single column.

The client was very pleased with the work and was happy to have a site in place that exceeded their original expectations. It’s worth noting that with the ever important factor of search engine rankings to be considered, a WordPress solution makes it easy via the use of plugins for clients to provide their own keyword rich content, and to have access to individual page meta data, such as page titles, descriptions and custom excerpts.

Custom fields can be a great tool, but they are not straight forward to use. Some good templates use them, so they are already set up, but if they are not set up, they are not great for everyday use, unless you know your way around the code.

    Thanks Stuart
